The Macoda is an Australian-designed hybrid mattress that pairs a graphene-infused memory-foam comfort system with a five-zone pocket-spring base, so you get contouring pressure relief on top and real bounce and edge support underneath. Its stand-out feature is the Unzip-and-Flip layer system, which lets you reset the feel between soft, medium and firm at home without buying a new bed.

That makes it a strong pick for couples who disagree on firmness, or for anyone whose preference shifts over time. At 31cm it is one of the taller boxed mattresses in Australia, and the cool-touch cover plus perforated airflow foam are built to keep heat down.

In this review we break down how the Macoda is built, how it feels, what it costs across every size, and who should (and should not) buy it.

Macoda Mattress  ★★★★☆ 4.3/5

Firmness: Adjustable (Soft / Medium / Firm)  |  Queen: $1,299 (check current price)  |  Trial: 100 nights  |  Warranty: 10 years

How it scores

Quality4.5
Value4.0
Comfort4.5
Ease of use4.0
Perks4.0

Quality and comfort are excellent for a hybrid at this price; value is fair; ease of use loses a little because the mattress is heavy to move and reflipping the layers takes effort; perks (adjustable feel, washable cover, 100-night trial) are solid but the 10-year warranty trails the market-leading 15-year cover.

The bottom line

The Macoda is one of the better-value adjustable hybrids in Australia. The graphene memory foam over a five-zone pocket-spring base gives it both cushioning and genuine support, the cover is cool to the touch, and the Unzip-and-Flip system lets you dial in soft, medium or firm at home. It is heavy to move and the 10-year warranty is a notch below the best, but for adaptable comfort with spring support it is an easy recommendation.

How we review mattresses

We assess every mattress on the same five criteria – quality, value, comfort, ease of use and perks – using the brand’s published construction, aggregated owner reviews from ProductReview.com.au and CHOICE, and hands-on assessment of the feel, cover and setup. We re-check pricing on the brand’s live page at each update.

Who the Macoda Mattress is best for

The Macoda suits couples who disagree on firmness, sleepers unsure of their ideal feel, and hot sleepers who want the airflow of a pocket-spring hybrid. The five-zone springs and firm setting also make it a solid pick for our back-pain mattress and hot sleeper guides, while the softer setting cushions side sleepers. Very heavy sleepers who want a single dedicated firm bed, or anyone after the lightest possible mattress to move, may prefer a simpler build like the Ecosa.

Pros

  • Three firmness settings in one bed: the Unzip-and-Flip system lets you re-stack the foam inserts to switch between soft, medium and firm at home, so you are not locked into the wrong feel
  • Hybrid support with real bounce: a five-zone pocket-spring base adds airflow, edge support and responsiveness that an all-foam bed cannot match
  • Runs cool: a cool-touch cover, perforated airflow foam and graphene-infused memory foam are all aimed at pulling heat away
  • Washable cover and 100-night trial: the cover unzips for cleaning and the trial comes with free returns and free delivery

Cons

  • Heavy to move: at 31cm and up to 54kg in a king it is one of the denser boxed mattresses, so plan for two people to position it
  • Warranty trails the leaders: the 10-year cover is fair but shorter than the 15-year warranties some rivals offer
  • Reflipping takes effort: changing firmness means unzipping the cover and re-stacking heavy foam layers, and a firmer-than-firm option costs an extra $100

"Our Macoda mattress is great. It's well designed, and seems to be made from high quality materials. The customisable firmness options are very convenient, and results in a plush, comfortable feel, which is also supportive thanks to the pocket spring base layer. The matress was a huge improvement on our previous one, and I definitely feel less stiff when I wake up in the morning. We did notice some black marks on the underside of the top cover when we first received the mattress, however when informed Macoda they happily sent us a replacement cover for free."  - Macoda Mattress Review

What the Macoda Mattress is made from

The Macoda is a 31cm hybrid built for adjustable comfort. From the top:

  1. Cool-touch cover: a bamboo-blend, Oeko-Tex certified cover that feels cool against the skin and unzips for washing.
  2. AirFlow comfort foam: a perforated, air-blown foam layer designed to move heat and moisture away.
  3. Graphene memory foam: body-hugging memory foam infused with graphene to help draw heat from the body.
  4. Comfort-Adjust support layer: a high-density transition foam; this is the layer you flip to change the firmness.
  5. Five-zone pocket springs: individually wrapped springs zoned for targeted support, with reinforced solid edge support.

The foam inserts can be re-stacked inside the cover to move between soft, medium and firm, and an optional extra-firm Comfort-Adjust layer is available for $100. The foams are CertiPUR-US certified, the fabrics are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, and the mattress ships compressed in a box.

Macoda pillow

Macoda Pillow -  The custom-designed Macoda memory foam pillow has an open cell structure that increases airflow which stops your face from getting all sweaty in the night. Macoda didn’t just drill holes into the memory foam pillow; the surface has a unique cooling gel glaze. Plus the memory foam is infused with bamboo charcoal, by doing this, the pillow absorbs moisture, diffuses heat and also neutralises odour.

The Macoda Pillow is also wrapped in a bamboo cover. The benefits of Bamboo other than being one of the best choices for the environment, bamboo fabric is astonishingly soft, silky and luxurious.

What the Macoda Mattress feels like

Support and firmness

In its medium setup the Macoda sits around a 5.5 out of 10, cushioning the shoulders and hips while the five-zone springs keep the spine level. Flip the Comfort-Adjust layer for a firmer feel (better for back and stomach sleepers or heavier bodies) or run it soft for more give at the pressure points.

Partner disturbance

The memory-foam comfort layers absorb most movement, and the individually wrapped pocket springs limit roll-together, so a restless partner is unlikely to wake you.

Suitability for hot sleepers

This is where the hybrid design pays off: the cool-touch cover, perforated airflow foam and graphene memory foam all target heat, and the pocket-spring base moves far more air than a solid foam core.

Off-gassing

There is a mild new-foam smell on unboxing that clears within a day or two in a ventilated room.

How much does the Macoda Mattress cost?

The Macoda starts at around $749 for a single and runs to about $1,499 for a king, with a queen near $1,299. That is competitive for an adjustable hybrid with a five-zone pocket-spring base and graphene memory foam. Macoda discounts regularly, so check the live price before you buy, and note that an optional extra-firm layer adds $100.

Ordering and delivery

Macoda ships free to mainland Australia and Tasmania. Major metro areas (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra) typically see delivery in 1–4 business days; Perth, Hobart and Darwin take 5–10 days, and regional areas a little longer. The mattress arrives compressed in a box; slide it onto the base, cut the plastic and it expands over a few hours. Because it is dense, it is best to have two people move it into place before unpacking. Trial returns are free and Macoda arranges collection.

How long does the Macoda Mattress last?

With a 10-year warranty, CertiPUR-US certified foams and a pocket-spring base, the Macoda is built to reach the typical 7–10 year mattress lifespan and beyond with care. Rotating it head-to-toe every few months and using a mattress protector will keep it in shape, and because the comfort layers are removable, a single worn insert does not mean a whole new mattress.

Macoda Mattress FAQ

Can you really change the firmness?

Yes. Unzip the cover and re-stack the foam inserts to move between soft, medium and firm. It takes a few minutes and no tools, and an optional extra-firm layer is available for $100.

Is the Macoda good for side sleepers?

In its soft or medium setting the graphene memory foam cushions the shoulders and hips well for side sleeping, while the zoned springs keep support underneath.

Does the Macoda sleep hot?

It is built to run cool: a cool-touch cover, perforated airflow foam and graphene memory foam sit over a breathable pocket-spring base that moves air far better than solid foam.

Is there a better-value alternative?

If you want an adjustable bed at a lower entry price, the Ecosa is worth a look; for a premium hybrid, compare the Sleeping Duck. The Macoda earns its price on the mix of adjustable feel and spring support.

How the Macoda Mattress compares

  • Macoda vs Ecosa: both let you adjust the firmness, but the Macoda is a spring hybrid with more bounce and airflow while the Ecosa is a simpler, lighter all-foam bed that often costs less. See our Ecosa review.
  • Macoda vs Sleeping Duck: both are premium adjustable hybrids; the Sleeping Duck offers split-firmness for couples, the Macoda undercuts it on price. See our Sleeping Duck review.
  • Macoda vs Koala: the Koala is an all-foam bed with a two-sided firmness flip; the Macoda adds a pocket-spring base and finer three-way firmness control. See our Koala review.
