It is a water-based cover like the Chilipad, but packed with sensors: it tracks your sleep, heart rate and breathing, and its Autopilot software automatically raises and lowers the temperature through the night to match your sleep stages, warming before you wake.

It also cools and heats each side independently, and it now ships to Australia, which it previously didn’t. For gadget-minded sleepers who want data and automation rather than dialling a number, nothing else comes close.

The catches are real, though: it is by far the most expensive option here, and the automation and tracking sit behind a required Autopilot membership, so there’s an ongoing cost the Chilipad doesn’t have. Buy it for the smarts, not for value.
